Sublime Medical: the claims were wrong before anyone chased them

Fractional Chief Operating Officer, my first fractional seat, for a three-practice cosmetic dermatology group in California; credited to Common Ground; 2015, four months

Run the group day to day as its fractional COO. A very good clinical practice whose business side nobody was running, and collected revenue kept trailing earned.

Full schedules, a growing patient base, revenue leaking after the visit. The story inside the building was collections, so chase harder.

Problem

Not effort. The claims were wrong when they left the building. The wrong software tier, an incomplete setup, out-of-date billing codes, paperwork that had come apart.

What we did

Fix at the level of the defect. Pay for and set up the software, correct the codes, put one person on a weekly code check, rebuild the paperwork. No new platform or headcount.

Result

Insurance billing up 42 percent month over month by month four. The client kept the weekly code check and the paperwork system after I left.

The fix is usually smaller and more boring than the story the client tells about the problem. This seat set that pattern for every one after it.Jesse Fowler
